For the Students Rebuild PBL, my group flawlessly. We achieved every goal we set and most of our work was great. Some of us would research the movements in Haiti, others worked on the website to display the organizations, and the rest worked on a video that illustrated what the organizations were trying to achieve. Overall presenting the project to parents and community members was perfect. We had a computer displaying our research and video, and we had a tri-fold board to show the many pictures we had. We introduced the parents and community members to the organizations and how they could help Haiti. I think my group’s exhibition presented our work effectively and in a professional manner.

Creating the PSA was a little bit stressful, there was a time crunch. My group worked very well together, some were working on finding pictures, others on the music, some on making the video. Complying the pictures did not take too long with the help of Google Images. We decided to use a soft depressing song for the beginning of the PSA and let it gradually turn into a happier mood. The only difficulty our group faced was uploading the video. Uploading took much longer than we anticipated, it all turned out well in the end. I learned much about the catastrophe that happened in Haiti.

My international team of wiki collaborators has created an excellent wiki. Everything is great about my groups wiki except for the citations, same text, and a fluid sense of writing. It seems as if I am the only one who has properly cited their work, that is why I add a suggestion to add citations in the discussion tab. Every time I try to make the text the same font and style, I always seem to delete peoples’ work or achieve anything. Making a fluid sense of writing over a project that is edited by several people is quite difficult and takes a considerable amount of time. So far I am a bit disappointed with my group members because of the quality of their work, but overall I am quite content.

Well the third quarter did not go as well as I wanted it to go. I ended up with 6 A’s and 2 B’s. Even though i did not achieve my goal of getting straight A’s for the quarter I know I can get at least one extra A on my semester report card. I hope to get at least to get a 4.0 by the end of the year. With this goal in mind I am going to stay on task and continue to excel in my classes. Next year is going to be much harder than this year. I am going to be taking Spanish 3 Honors, Algebra 2 Honors, AP World History, and other easier courses. Thinking about next year and the work load I know that this year will be easy compared to Sophomore year.

At the graduation of Princeton students Jeff gave the advice that it is better to be kind than clever. While on a road trip he told his grandmother that she is losing nine years off of her life because she smoked. She began to cry, his grandfather pulled him to the side and told him that sometime in the future he would realize that sometimes it is harder to be kind than clever. This made me think about my personality. Most of the the time I am clever rather than kind. From now on I think I will be a bit kinder to others.

Because of the earthquake and tsunami that hit Japan, supply chains are being effected all around the globe. Companies like Apple, Leveno, Sony Ericsson, all have factories that were closed do to the natural disasters in Japan. Apple’s Ipad 2 is being reatly effected, Among the iPad parts threatened are its flash memory – used for audio and video storage – and its super-thin battery, which is produced exclusively by Apple Japan, according to iSuppli. Toshiba has closed one of its two LCD factories because of power outages. With all of these factories closing there will be a shortage of technology products within three months. Aside from technology, the car industry is suffering losses. Nissian and Honda are likely to be affected by the disasters the most. Nissian owns a factory in the earthquake zone supplies 12% of its engines. The ramifications of the disasters in Japan are still unfolding today.

There are several technology giants that are helping raise money for Japan; Google, Twitter, Facebook and Apple. Google has set up a person finder service specifically for Japan. Currently there are over 140,000 people leaving messages either looking for someone or saying that they are alive. Facebook is using their social games to help raise money; for instance if you buy radishes in FarmVille all of the proceeds will go to the Japanese relief effort. Twitter is helping by spreading the current news in Japan. With no power and many services down websites like Twitter are creating hash tags to convey evacuation efforts and current effects of the radiation.

The wiki about the earthquake in Japan is very well put together. There is a variety of information ranging from the effect of the earthquake to the radioactive contamination. I believe that Wikipedia makes people become a member of the web site before they can edit a wiki. Once they post something they make sure it is accurate and that it was properly cited. Wikis grow so quickly because they are open to everyone. Other websites, encyclopedias, and academic journals are edited by one person or a small group of people while Wikis are edited by hundreds of people. Aside from the vast amount of the work there is a great deal of information in it. With so many people collaborating on Wiki there are a variety of view points, expert opinions, and information from people that are actually in Japan.

After watching Exit through the Gift Shop I believe that Mr. Brainwash is a symbol. He represents what street art should not turn into. Street art’s inspiration should be political controversies and world issues. From the beginning I thought there was something going on with Mr. Brainwash, and at the end my thoughts were proven right. The movie is providing a warning against what street art should not end up being commercialized. I deeply enjoyed this movie and spent several hours looking at street art at home.

My Group's Glog
My Glog was awesome and so was my group. We started by reading the poem and annotating it. After that we broke off into our part of the project. Phillip looked for music relating to the song, I did a biography on Margaret Atwood and a piece of artwork that related to the poem, and Jordan started the Glog. I found a painting by Arcimboldo, Giuseppe which was a man’s face made out of animals. It is a perfect match because the poem personifies animals as if they were human. I found many websites with info about Margaret, she was born in Canada in 1939. She was home schooled for many years. Our group worked flawlessly and I had a great time working on this project.
